Analysis of a College Magazine Cover

Through this analysis I have been able to discover how to create a successful College Magazine cover. The First you see when you look at my chosen cover is the image. The image is very important as It helps to give the reader his or hers first initial thoughts on the magazine or gives an idea as to what the magazine is going to consist of. The image is of an Ethic Male, dressed all in white and very smartly with a shirt and trousers. This is appropriate due to the nature of the magazine (a college magazine) which you would associate with; education, intelligence, Job prosperity and while doing so you’re expected to look smart as to impress future employers etc. The male is also young, good looking and while looking smart still manages to make it look fashionable, to appeal to the very fashion conscious audience (students and Young adults). The image also sticks to the rule of thirds, the image is in the middle third to allow room for advertisements and other cover lines either side.

The second factor which makes this front cover successful is the use of font and colours used. Again its purpose is to appeal to its target audience so is quite a modern bold font with simplistic, modern colours. They use only three colours (white, red/orange and blue) which also keeps to a theme. This makes the cover look trendy, Fashionable and clear to read.

The cover lines are appropriate as they talk about, again fashion, which is a reoccurring factor when analysing this magazine. Also Sports teams, Technology etc., which would once again appeal to its intended target audience covering different subjects that both male and female students would take interest in.
